LAE city manager Roy Kamen said he was asked by MP Loujaya Kouza to travel to Port Moresby to observe the debate on the Lae City Commission Bill in Parliament.

Kamen was responding to critics from the Morobe provincial government who were upset by his appearance in The National on Wednesday with Kouza’s delegation in Waigani.

Provincial minister for government investment and Umi-Atzera  local level government president Daki Mao said Kamen was a public servant and should not be involved in political matters.

He said Kamen’s appearance indicated a “hidden motive” related to the city commission issue.

He said the provincial executive council must suspend Kamen. “As the council members, we now call upon acting administrator Geoving Bilong to suspended Kamen from the city manager’s post,” Mao said.

Kamen said he travelled to Waigani on Kouza’s  invitation to observe as a public servant. He said the commission was the business of the provincial executive council.
