LAE MP Loujaya Kouza says all her hotel accommodation bills were paid by her or the People’s National Congress party.

She denied that she had been silent on issues affecting Lae.

Kouza (pictured) was responding to a report in The National on Monday which said she had been living in a hotel paid for by the Lae district administration because her home had been damaged.

She said it was unfortunate that since 2012, she did not have any accommodation in Lae after her home at Busurum Compound was damaged. “It has not been very secure for me to live there,” she  said.

“What I did when I needed to come down to the electorate, to deliver development, was to take three to four days accommodation at the Lae City Hotel or Morobe Hotel, and come back to Moresby.

“In Port Moresby, I was renting for a while at a lodge, until recently when I have a duplex accommodation. The costs of my rentals and that kind of thing have been taken care of by my salary. Cheques would be raised from Parliament.

“Sometimes my party PNC would help with the rentals.

“When I was in Lae, at the most three to four days in the electorate, my discretionary funds from the Lae district administration would pay for that.”

Kouza said with the Lae City Commission coming into being she would have a permanent accommodation as chairman.

On being “silent” on Lae issues, she said the number of impact projects she started was “phenomenal” but were not well covered by the media.

“My records are there, and can be printed out from the district office.”
