PEOPLE from Nondugl in North Waghi electorate, Jiwaka, now have an opportunity to live in good homes, thanks to local MP and Defence Minister Dr Fabian Pok who bought a walkabout sawmill for their use.

Pok purchased the equipment, which he turned over to the village leaders to help them cut timber and build better homes.

Deputy chairman and treasurer-elect for the sawmill organisation Lucas Kumiye from Andapakan, described the donation as a big relief to the people.

He said apart from building homes, the sawmill could be used on hire to help fund the organisation in looking for other means to help the people.

Kumiye said Pok built a new foot bridge at Ombuntawi, registered the new Jiwaka Teachers’ College, paid the school fee subsidy for tertiary students, provided financial assistance to the Nondugl Rotary Club and built a foot bridge on River Alnol.

Kumiye said these were basic services that the people would need.

“I commend Dr Pok for the support because for years, we have suffered from lack of government services.”

“I’m appealing to the people to come together and work hard so that the sawmill bought by the MP could be put into good use,” he said.
