AITAPE-LUMI MP Patrick Pruaitch has called for a Catholic church-run health centre in his electorate to be managed by the Sandaun health authority.
Pruaitch made the statement during a recent visit to the main hospital in Vanimo yesterday.
He said the Raihu health centre has been at the mercy of Aitape Lumi in the recent past since the Aitape Catholic diocese reduced its funding and other necessary support.
Sandaun health authority (PHA) chairman Gerald Gubon welcomed the recommendation and said he was willing to take the centre under the authority.
Pruaitch, who is also the Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, committed K10,000 to nurses and medical staff at the hospital on Monday.
He thanked them for their effort on the frontline combating the Covid-19 and other daily duties in patient care.
Pruaitch also warned illegal border crossers that security personnel would be manning the seven border posts in West Sepik.
