MP charged with reckless driving after accident

WEWAK MP Kevin Isifu, pictured, has been charged for reckless driving after a traffic accident last month, say police.
Isifu was injured in the crash which occurred on the Poreporena Freeway in Port Moresby.
NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou said the incident occurred last month when the vehicle, a five-door Toyota Landcruiser travelling along Poreporena to Konedobu crashed into a light pole and flipped onto its side.
N’dranou confirmed Isifu suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later formally arrested and charged at the Boroko police station. He was later released on bail.
N’dranou said another MP was involved in a minor road accident yesterday at around 12.30am at the Hilton Hotel.
N’dranou said Member for Kandep Alfred Manase was involved in an accident with a Bank South Pacific escort vehicle.
He said some damage were done to the vehicle but no one was injured.
He said Manase’s vehicle was taken to Hohola police station where it was impounded, both parties were told to go the station yesterday for further investigation on the incident.
N’dranou said up to 15 road incidents were are reported daily and most people are arrested and charged for violating traffic laws.
He urged drivers to follow simple traffic rules and be considerate of other road users.
