MENYAMYA MP Benjamin Philip is claiming the National Planning Department neglected his district development authority (DDA) and allocated K500,000 to an association to distribute it for Government services.
“We have established the district procurement committee within our DDA, and yet, the department allocated K500,000 to the Ikwamalje Sakapane Association to distribute it for health, education and road infrastructural projects,” Philip said.
“I want to know under which programme were these funds procured?”
He said K250,000 was given to five primary schools (K50,000 each) in Kome local level government, K100,000 to Menyamya Station Seventh-day Adventist Primary School, K10,000 each to Lagai and Wailala road maintenance, K5,500 to Lagai aid post, K6,000 to Wailala aid post, K6,000 to Ungwimela aid post, K5,500 to Ilongli aid post, K10,000 to Kwaplalim health centre, K20,000 to 20 elementary schools (K1,000 each), K50,000 to Ikwamalje Sakapane Association, K6,000 to one of the aid posts in the district and K21,000 to other community projects.
Meanwhile, National Planning Department Minister Rainbo Paita said he was not aware of the K500,000 funding and would get a detailed report from his department about the payment.
“The specifics of this funding I will check with my department and come back to you (Philip),” he said.
“But for now (Friday’s sitting), last year, under the special intervention programme, we assisted various associations and small to medium enterprises affected by the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
“So, for this (Menyamya) district, he is talking about K500,000.
“Anything beyond that every department cannot pay, and anything below (K500,000) yes, it is within the threshold.”
