MP claims K2 million stolen from him

OKAPA MP Bonny Oveyara has claimed that over K2 million in district services improvement programme funds was stolen from him during an attack on him in his electorate last Friday.
The MP claimed that a man armed with a hand grenade almost threw it at him when he went inside the district office with one of his officers.
He claimed several vehicles, including his and a police vehicle, were smashed by the attackers.
They also smashed the district administration office and police station, and public servants fled in fear of their lives.
Mr Oveyara said Ibusa and Kanite clans in Okapa attacked him after he explained the Government procedure to process claims.
He said the Kanite and Ibusa clans submitted a K250,000 claim for what they claimed was work done.
But they alleged that the money was mismanaged in the district administration.
When the MP tried to explain the process involved, they refused to listen and attacked him.
While he claimed that K2 million in public funds was stolen from him during the attack, he did not explin why he was carrying around such a large sum of money in cash.
