THE 90,000 people of Wewak have a social media platform – launched on Aug 23 – where their development aspirations can be expressed and heard.
Member for Wewak Kevin isifu created the Facebook page “Wewak district development authority” which has 500 members and counting.
“I welcome you all to the official Facebook page of the Wewak DDA, it is a forum where we intend to publish news and information and report on progress and development activities in the district transparently,” he said.
“I invite everyone to join and participate meaningfully by sharing your views to support our DDA for our betterment,” Isifu said.
“From the President of America, Donald Trump using Twitter to Governor of East Sepik, Allan Bird using Facebook, many more politicians are turning to social media platforms to be in touch with their people as PNG is catching up with the digital world,” he said.
Isifu congratulated Turubu LLG president David Kausik for winning the East Sepik deputy governor’s post.
“Kausik was our Wewak candidate in the race.
“It is first time that Wewak has won the deputy governor’s post.
“We are very proud of him and extend our thanks and appreciation to all those presidents who supported and voted him through,” Isifu said.
Isifu also welcomed critics of his July 22 car crash accident in Port Moresby to “lay down arms and join the team” and contribute meaningfully towards the united course and greater benefit of Wewak.
Isifu denied being drunk at the time of the accident nor were there any other aggravating factors related to the accident.
He was charged with reckless driving causing damage to State property and was convicted but given a suspended sentence by Magistrate Hubert Sareke.
The court found Isifu guilty, cautioned him and discharged him on a three months good behaviour bond with a K300 surety.
“The matter is now put to rest,” he said.
“I urge everyone including my people of Wewak to refrain from subjecting themselves to unnecessary anxiety as a result of misconceptions.”
Isifu said since the change of Government on May 30 and consequent losing of his ministerial portfolio, he had more time to spend in the electorate with his people.
