BOUGAINVILLE Regional MP Joe Lera is focused to continue his support and investment in education in Bougainville.
Lera said since 2013, his office allocated K1.2 million each year for Bougainville students that needed school fee assistance at tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea and overseas.
“This year, my office collected more than 1000 applications,” he said.
He said for this year, applications opened last October and closed at the end of January.
Lera said his office was processing the applications and would issue payment once funding was made available.
Apart from this, he would also provide financial support to elementary, primary and secondary schools at the district level.
Lera said under his education plan, he was also focused to develop more vocational schools, colleges and a university to cater for the increasing number of grades eight, 10 and 12 school-leavers in Bougainville.
Other major projects he aims to fund included the Bougainville Polytechnic College, Arawa School of Nursing, Haku Community Health Workers College, establishment of Bougainville University, Bougainville Soccer Academy and 50 per cent subsidy for students attending the International Training Institute at Kokopau Branch, Buka.
Lera called on the other three ABG MPs and the people for their support in order to raise service delivery standards in Bougainville.
