MP, explain reasons behind tinted vehicles

The National, Tuesday March 4th, 2014

LAST year, the Peter O’Neill-led government sent out a memo  to all state departments and institutions to remove tints from state vehicles.

The decision was welcomed and it was a step in the right direction.

We can no longer see state vehicles, especially police ones, with tints in our district.

I appreciate our local MP  Mehrra Minne Kipefa who had given orders to remove tinted windows on all district vehicles.

However, there are three vehicles without ‘P’ or ‘Z’ plate numbers and tinted glasses carrying the district’s name on them.

Can the MP explain to the people the reason behind the tints?

What are the criteria used to put ‘P’ or ‘Z’ plates on other district vehicles with clear glasses and other vehicles without government plate numbers and tinted glasses?

Though the MP had other reasons, it is obvious that drivers  are  misusing the vehicles behind tinted glasses.

If the national government is preaching about transparency at the national level, the same should be echoed to the district levels.

I ask our MP  to be mindful of these minor things as people are watching closely.
