Papua New Guinean children must count themselves fortunate for the free education they receive because it is a fundamental platform for human development, an MP says.

Member for Moresby North-East Labi Amaiu told students, teachers and parents of Wardstrip Demonstration School that without education, one could not excel in life.

“You children of Wardstrip Demonstration School are very special in many ways,” he said.

“You are very fortunate that you have this opportunity and a bright future ahead of you.

“I’m very excited to be here, with very lovely future generation leaders, engineers, teachers and future Papua New Guineas and hopefully future member for Moresby North-East.

“We are very fortunate that we have our villages to go back to because most of our provinces and districts are still rural based and that’s why we have our home and village hut that we can find comfort in. I’ve got to invest in human development, give security back to the people and to provide the essential services that have been lacking for the many years.

“I believe we need to spend money in building more classrooms, providie transportation to assist teachers doing their admin run and taking caring of our children coming to school.”

The school received a 15-seater bus.
