MP funds festive events

CHURCHES continue to play a vital role in assisting governments provide basic services to the people.
And the various churches in the Abau district are no different, said member for Abau Sir Puka Temu.
He gave K20,000 to the inter-denomination evangelism programme to fund their Christmas activities.
The funds came from the joint district planning and budget priorities committee.
Sir Puka said the churches were also one reason why the law and order problems had been contained in the Aroma LLG and the district.
Sir Puka said an additional K15,000 would be presented to the wardens to maintain law and order during the celebrations.
Aroma Coast Spiritual Development Association coordinator Rev Make Koloma thanked Sir Puka for the sponsorship saying the programme would go a long way in ensuring that peace and harmony, law and order and improvement of living standards were upheld.
Sir Puka also gave the West Aroma rugby tournament K30,000, the Aroma Coast netball tournament K15,000 and East Aroma rugby tournament K20,000.
Sir Puka said each village community in the district had been given money according to their sizes. Small villages get K500 and the bigger villages get K2,000 for their Christmas programmes.
The canoe racing activities received K152,000.
Sir Puka pledged to maintain support for the programmes.
