SCHOOLS in Lower Jimi, Jiwaka, received more than K250,000 from local MP Mai Dopp to to fund their operations.
The schools had run short of cash and were in danger of closing and sending children home when Dopp intervened with allocation from the district service improvement programme (DSIP) funds.
It is understood that the late release of tuition fee free (TFF) funds from Waigani for the second term had caused the schools to run short of operation funds to keep them going.
Dopp went to Koinambe Primary School to hand over the cheques on June 24.
School children gathered with their parents and local level government presidents to welcome their MP.
Eleven elementary schools, five primary schools, one community school and one top up school received the funding.
The elementary schools received K10,000 each while the rest received K20,000.
