Rubbish piling up around Goroka town is a major health concern, says Henganofi MP Robert Atiyafa.

Atiyafa raised the issue yesterday when presenting a cheque for K20,000 to the town authority to clean up the garbage piles.

He said rubbish was piling up near his home at the Rotary Park and urged the town authority to use the money to remove the rubbish.

“Our town looks filthy,” he said.

“I urge all the other eight MPs of the province who have made commitments to the town authority to honour them,” he said.

Atiyafa, who is the Police Minister, had earlier raised concerns about pigs roaming in the Goroka Urban Market.

Goroka town manager Harond Aboti thanked Atiyafa and said the funds would be put to good use.

“This is a big donation. It will assist us clean the township,” Aboti said. “This town belongs to the people of Henganofi as well, and we welcome the help given by you.”
