MP hailed for services

Letters

I SUPPORT Henganofi MP Robert Atiyafa for the financial support his District Development Authority (DDA) has provided for the students in his electorate.
A total of approximately K2.5 million was distributed to subsidise the school fee component payable by the students and their parents for this year.
What may not be known to many is that this programme has been going on for a good number of years when the MP was elected into office.
I believe the Henganofi DDA continues to undertake projects in other areas including roads, bridges and law and order.
Government funding under the various DSIP programmes are allocated to provide service and implement projects that will benefit the constituents and alleviate the hardships people face.
School fee payment remains one major hardship for the majority of the parents, particularly the rural population nationwide, even under the Government’s existing Tesas/Hecas policies for those at tertiary and college levels.
While the total funding provided under the DSIP may not be adequate to cover all the development needs of the district, I believe it takes foresight and courage for the member and his DDA to prioritise funding to areas where his constituents need most.
In this case, it is the school fees and again the MP has delivered.
What he has and continues to do is not a mere gesture but a major development undertaking on its own.
It is his view that this investment will be realised in the long term and that a better educated population is better equipped to contribute meaningfully to society and attend to his/her other socio-economic well-being.
As a beneficiary, I wish to thank Atiyafa and his DDA to ensure that all students attending tertiary institutions and Fode (Flexible Open Distant Education) centres are assisted to further their education and pursue their dreams.
