INVESTORS in the country have been challenged to assist in developing human capital by sponsoring students for further education studies.

Acting Minister for Higher Education Don Polye also urged investors and stakeholders to assist the government in implementing proposed new reforms in the higher education sector.

“Human capital is very vital for the people and infrastructure development of the nation,” he said.

“I would like to see that the investors sponsor students for further training so that they can then develop the nation.

“They have keen interest in PNG and so I ask the private sector to wake up and support the government in developing human resource in PNG.

“And this we can provide tax incentives to companies to do that.

“The public-private partnership is very important in pursuing such initiatives. And so I ask the various industrious partners to team up with the government and take on this task to develop human resource.

“The nation has a great challenge, the LNG project that will soon proceed, that we need a strong and educated human resource to deal with it.”

Polye outlined several key plans and targets which he said would be initiated through the K40 million reforms.

He added that two key changes under the reforms were the accreditation of syllabus to suit the demands of development and meeting the standards of leading university accords.
