GOILALA MP Daniel Mona has promised to support students from the district attending schools in the National Capital District.

Mona and officials from the district administration visited the Hohola Youth Development Centre, in Port Moresby, to give  K5,000 for fees for the Goilala students attending the institution.

Mona said he paid a similar amount last year. K30,000 is the outstanding fees.

“For the 35 Goilala students attending this institution, K5,000 is not much but I have a heart for my people living in the city.

“Most of these students came to live in the city with their relatives in search of education.”

Mona said investing in education was wise because the people would be blessed  with the benefits.

Peter Maia, a tradesman who is one of the longest-serving staff of the Hohola Youth Development Centre, said the institution specialised in trade skills training.

Maia said  the school offered courses in motor mechanics, metal fabrication, carpentry, general construction, garment making (sewing) and tourism and hospitality.

He said that the course of electro-technology was introduced recently.

Maia said students do hands-on practicals and lessons and upgrade their grades through the Flexible Open and Distance Education, which the institution is affiliated to.

Maia said  the school enrolled students from Grades 9 to 11.

Director and principal of the institution Br Antony Swamy thanked Mona for prioritising education for his people.

The centre is a technical secondary school operated by the Catholic Church.
