THE forgotten people of Kambia, on the border of Western Highlands and Jiwaka, have never seen any government service and they still live in a hostile environment.

Last Friday Anglimp-South Waghi MP Joe Koim flew by helicopter with his delegates and paid a surprise visit to the West and East Kambia people.

Small groups of people arrived and greeted Koim, shed tears of joy and hugged the MP.

They wore T-shirts that were given to them by Koim during  his election campaign.

Koim  promised to fund an airstrip for the West Kambia people and urged them to start clearing bushes. He flew on to East Kambia for a road project.

Koim told the locals there to clear 30km of bushes before the machines could start work.

People in West Kambia normally walk for three days and nights through bushes to Paparabuk junction and then board PMVs there to travel to Mt Hagen. East Kambia people walked for two days and nights through bush as well to reach Minj town.

Koim told the people in West and East Kambia that he would make sure that government services reached them in his term as leader.

His familiarity visit has brought hope for people still living primitive lives.
