NIPA-Kutubu MP Jeffrey Komal wants the government to consider giving his district’s infrastructure woes some extra attention.
Komal made the point that Kutubu Oil had been extracting its rich resource for 23 years but there were still no sealed or paved roads or electricity.
He aired his grievances to the media while presenting his district’s acquittal report for 2013 to Finance Minister James Marape at the Vulupindi House yesterday.
Komal said his electorate had five LLGs, with the one in the Mt Bosavi area being the remotest and most expensive to deliver services to.
“If the national government cannot give more on top of what we are getting through the annual District Support Infrastructure Programme, then Nipa-Kutubu should be pictured for extra funding to support our impact projects,” he said.
Marape backed his fellow MP’s suggestion, saying that the resource was still being pumped undisturbed since 1990.
“This is one of the best presented acquittal reports that I have sighted amongst the 30-31 reports that have come in,” Marape said.
“I congratulate the Nipa-Kutubudistrict staff for their due diligence, good ethic practices and ultimately being responsible for adhering to requirements set.”
Marape said financial reports were coming in steadily, with only those that had issues with their respective district treasury officers still lagging.
He confirmed that they had not released any new DSIP and PSIP funds for 2014 but envisaged to pay the new batch of funding soon to those who had complied with processes,” he added.
