MP not considering agriculture sector

Letters

UNLIKE other MPs/leaders, why has Telefomin MP Solan Mirisim for his two terms not considered agriculture as a catalyst for development in the district?
It is sad when the agriculture sector is left ignorant and idle without any priorities given to it.
Agriculture needs to be appreciated and implemented by our leaders as the main agenda for development and prosperity of our district.
This is the sector that generates economic activities, provides environmental services, creates employment, and sustains the rural livelihoods of the population.
The sector involves all and benefits all.
Agriculture’s immediate contributions are in the areas of food security, cash income-generation, employment creation and poverty alleviation.
In the medium to long-term, the sector has potential to empower people and create wealth, thus bringing greater prosperity to the whole nation.
Our MP must recognise agriculture as main catalyst for Telefomin district socio-economic development.
If this sector is given priority and implemented effectively, agriculture has definite potential to manage law-and-order, take care of health, help educate children, bring peace and harmony, manage and sustain environment and its integrity, and bring overall prosperity to our district.
It’s time that our MP should now look into agriculture and do something about it instead of putting blind eyes on it and expecting development to come easy on a golden plate.
Other areas of PNG are seeing real/sustainable development because of agriculture development being given the priority by their mandated MPs.
Telefomin can also see the real developments if our MP looks more into agriculture. I hope one fine day, Telefomin will become a mini-Port Moresby City when our MP puts 100 per cent priority in agriculture.
