MORE than a thousand students, teachers and parents gathered at the St John Primary School to witness the opening of the new one-by-four double storey classroom in Port Moresby.

Moresby North-West MP Michael Malabag opened the building after it was blessed by Archbishop of Port Moresby John Ribat.

Malabag, who is also Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS, said it was important to have classrooms of quality for proper learning.

“It is about an asset and should be given time and quality to last for years. When we fix classrooms, we mean business. We talk about quality and money,” he said.

The four classrooms would each cater for grades 3, 4, 5 and 6, which were in demand for the overcrowding population of students.

The building cost K800,000 and Malabag’s electorate put K200,000 towards landscaping and building.

The classrooms have 20 desks each.
