HENGANOFI MP Robert Atiyafa has come to the aid of tertiary students in his electorate with K1 million for their tuition and other fees.
He distributed documents with copies of cheques and bank deposit receipts to parents and students at Henganofi station yesterday.
The fees are from his human resource development initiative for the district.
Atiyafa thanked Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for maintaining the free education policy saying his education initiative would continue for the next five years.
He said an educated population would bring much-needed development and services to the district and his aim was to ensure students coming through his human resource empowerment.
A total of 444 students received school fee assistance ranging from K2,000 to more than K5,000 in fee subsidy.
A thankful mother, Nervie Koni Sine, hailed Atiyafa for being the first Henganofi MP to pay their children’s education costs.
Many parents and students also thanked Atiyafa.
“I encourage students of Henganofi district who come through this subsidy scheme to study hard and lift the profile of the district,” Atiyafa said.
He said students who benefited from the free education policy, from elementary to secondary schools, were excluded but those attending higher learning institutions would receive his assistance.
Atiyafa said he would prioritise human resource development besides other key programmes such as rural transport network, health, education with law and order.
He added that K7 million of his K10 million district services improvement programme funds, would be used to upgrade the Tebega and Henganofi roads.
