SAMARAI-Murua MP Isi Henry Leonard, pictured, presented K82,000 to the International Training Institute (ITI) in Port Moresby on Thursday.
The money will be used to pay for the tuition fees of the 17 students attending the institute in Alotau, Milne Bay.
“The human resource is a sector that can drive other developments,” Leonard said.
“I believe in education and so I want to invest in human resources development.
“That is the only way to bring changes into our district and province.”
Leonard has committed K1 million towards education.
ITI is one of 36 institutes which has students sponsored by the MP.
Leonard has also assigned a liaison officer to monitor the students’ academic performance.
“I want to make sure these students now will go and help our people back home,” he said.
“This is the first time a Member has sponsored his students here at ITI and we are grateful for the support and commitment,” ITI president and managing director Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval said.
He said education was the key to success and Leonard had the right vision for his people.
