KEROWAGI MP Bari Palma is engaging the Urbanisation Office for a physical development planning by zoning the entire district into an exclusive economic hub.
The Urbanisation Office technical team with director Max Kep were in Kerowagi last week at the invitation of Palma to do a new plan for Kerowagi town and create a two kilometre economic corridor along the Highway.
The Highlands Highway that runs through Kerowagi shares the border between Kundiawa Gembogl on the Eastern side and Angilim South Whagi on the Western side of Jiwaka.
The new economic corridor would encourage business boom in the future and create wealth for the people.
Palma, a local businessman, was elected MP for Kerowagi after contesting several general elections in the past.
As a new MP, he has set his priority on economic empowerment.
“In my five-year plan, we are focusing on economic empowerment as the way forward for the people of Kerowagi,” he said.
“Kerowagi is fortunate to have the Highlands Highway. Now I am focusing on properly zoning two kilometres on each sides of the Highway and help our local land owners register their Incorporated Land Group (ILG), mortgage their land and get loan to be involved in business.
“Kerowagi town will be expanded to Barawagi. We already have existing government services such as the Barawagi CIS , Mobile squad base, Don Bosco Technical Institute, and Kerowagi and Kondiu secondary schools.
Kerowagi also hosts the Catholic Mission headquarters for the Highlands in Mingende that runs a primary school, a technical college and a hospital.”
Palma urged his people to turn away from tribal conflict, laziness, free hand-out mentality and get involved in business activities.
