MORESBY North East MP John Kaupa says the district will support women to venture into the micro to small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector with K3 million already allocated.
“My aim is to eradicate unemployment and poverty to enhance the quality of life for our families in the city,” he said.
“Our district development authority has resolved to fund the women with K3 million for their MSMEs.”
Kaupa said the MSME women’s group consisted of 170 mothers and would witness the launch of the funding support next month.
“We will seek additional funding assistance from the National Development Bank (NDB) and Bank South Pacific (BSP) in helping our mothers to venture into MSME,” Kaupa said.
“Prime Minister James Marape, who has advocated for MSME in Papua New Guinea is expected to attend to address more than 20,000 mothers from Moresby North-East,” he said.
Kaupa said he supported the Government’s allocation of K200 million in funding for small businesses and SMEs with the money to be made available through soft loans from BSP and NDB.
Kaupa said he hoped people in his district would access the funds and get the help they needed to start and operate businesses and build the economy.
“Moresby North-East is a metropolitan district that operates on a cash based economy, but we have many unemployed youths and mothers who are struggling to find employment and survive in the big city,” he said.
“Therefore, we have encourage them to be entrepreneurs.”
