MP: Police vehicles will be marked

ALL police vehicles attached to Central police will be clearly marked as such, says Governor Robert Agarobe.
Agarobe said this when appealing for calm along the Hiritano Highway to the relatives of Emmanuel Ivagai who had blocked the road over Ivagi’s death, allegedly by police.
“All Central police vehicles to be clearly marked as ‘Central Police’,” he said.
“Any unmarked vehicle with people in police uniform will be seen as imposters or criminals and will be at the mercy of the public.
“The provincial government will pay for the signage if need be.
“The Central government will also pay for 300 new recruits from Central with grade 12 certificates starting this year.
“In the next three years, 60 per cent of Central police will be from the province and 40 per cent would be from elsewhere.
“My drive to rebuild our history and our identity and my fight to protect our people by building our economy and driven by our business arms such as ‘Aniani’.
“I also explained why my fight to build our border post and have more police presence on our roads with modern vehicles was to have more visibility for our protection and be a deterrent against crime.
“However, our issues have been compounded by the negligence of the previous governments and we are now facing the consequences.
“I explained that what happened was unnecessary and shouldn’t have happened at all, and like I mentioned, we have an institution (the Constabulary) under our constitution to protect us.
“However, a balance needs to be maintained with 25 per cent of personnel from each region, but we seem to have a big imbalance with a minority from the Papua and Central for that matter.
“Throughout the years, training standards have dropped.”
