WOMEN in Esa’ala, Milne Bay, will now have access to financial services and a credit facility to support their small businesses activities.
This was made possible through a presentation of K500,000 by Deputy Prime Minister and MP Davis Steven and the district development authority (DDA) to the Women’s Micro Bank Ltd (WMBL).
According to WMBL, the allocation of funds stem from an agreement that was signed in April.
Small business operators will now be able to open bank accounts and access funds to further develop their enterprises.
Steven said the Government wanted to enable both the private and public sectors to contribute meaningfully towards his district’s economic development.
He said he was working with oil palm growers and boat owners to enable those business activities and improve the revenue earning potential of women in the district.
WMBL chief executive Gunanidhi Das said the bank was trying to implement the real microfinance concept in the country through technology enabled solutions.
“This funding will now enable the Women’s Micro Bank to operate in Esa’ala district through an established agent office,” Das said.
“WMBL is in process of establishing its presence in Alotau for ease of doing business in Esa’ala.
“This will enable an all-inclusive approach wherein banking services in Esa’ala will be supported through Alotau basically for ease of doing business, marketing and branding.”
