THERE was no inquiry or police report into one of Enga’s senior public servant abducted outside Kundiawa, in Chimbu, while on duty in 2011, Wabag MP Robert Sandan Ganim said yesterday.
He was speaking in parliament about the disappearance of  Openekali Teine.
“The people of Wabag petitioned me to find out what had happened to Teine after his mysterious disappearance when he was on official duty during a by-election in Chimbu on March 11, 2011,” Ganim said.
“The people want to know why the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs and the Electoral Commission did not inquire into this.”
Ganim asked the minister responsible, Leo Dion, if his department was doing something.
“They were still waiting for an official inquiry,” he said.
Ganim said the people wanted to know if the government was doing anything to compensate Teine’s family, the people of Wabag and Enga.
In his response, Dion told Ganim that since he took the ministry, he did not see or come across any reports regarding the disappearance.
“On behalf of the former and current governments, I would like to pass my sincere condolences and sympathy to the family.
“I know him personally and I am sorry,” Dion said.
“I will ask my department and the Electoral Commission to inquire into this matter and the report to be tabled in parliament as soon as possible.”
He blamed the relevant authorities for failing to inform higher authorities for immediate intervention.
“I will ask my department and the Electoral Commission to inquire into this matter and the report to be tabled in parliament as soon as possible.”
Dion assured Ganim that proper investigations and a coroner’s inquiry will be done so the family, the government and the people of Wabag and Engawere satisfied as to what had happened to a distinguished public servant who tragically disappeared while serving the state.
