KOKOPO MP Emil Tamur is concerned with the deteriorating road conditions and lack of lighting in the town.
He raised the issue during a meeting of the Kokopo city authority board for the swearing in of new members – local level government (LLG) presidents of Kokopo. The ceremony was at the Kokopo-Vunamami urban LLG conference room on Friday.
East New Britain senior magistrate Samuel Lavutul conducted the ceremony.
The new members are Kokopo Mayor – Mesmin Murliu; Raluana – Tiolam Wawaga; Duke of York – Issacc Ilom; and, Bitapaka – Cosmas Bauk.
Tamur tasked Murliu to use revenue collected by the city authority to deal with the problems.
Tamur said many roads in the city, especially up at Kenabot residential area, were badly in need of repair.
Tamur said the main four-lane road needed lighting up and wants the Kokopo city authority and KVULLG to use funds collected from taxes and rates charges to carry out the repairs.
He said most districts in the country had received only K4 million this year.
“We have population in the rural areas who are crying for better services.
“I call on all presidents to properly manage the village service grant.”
