WEWAK MP Kevin Isifu received a cheque for K1.5 million to upgrade St Xavier’s High School and Dagua hospital under the public investment programme funding in Wewak on Thursday.
The Dagua hospital upgrade will cost K1million while St Xavier’s would receive K500,000.
Dagua hospital also received two ambulances earlier this year to serve the new Balam Health Post in the Dagua local level government and the new Taul Health Post in the Turubu LLG.
According to a report, the health posts were funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The Wewak development authority has also funded upgrading work on the Hawain Health Post which will start next year.
“My priorities are in health and education,” Isifu said.
“I thank the East Sepik government for listing in the 2020 budget a K1 million funding for St Martin’s Health Centre on Kairiru Island and K1 million for the Wewak town clinic.”
Two junior high schools have been declared – one in Passam for the Wewak Rural LLG and one on Muschu Island.
Isifu said Wewak DDA would work in consultation with the provincial health authority to maintain standards in the development of their health programmes.
“I want to thank the governor for supporting Wewak district, which is the headquarters and the economic hub of East Sepik and look forward to work closely with him for his greater Sepik development agenda,” he said.
