PEOPLE from other Morobe districts have died over lawlessness issues to protect Ahi land in Lae city while the landowners step back when such situations arise, Lae MP Loujaya Toni says.

“Those law and order issues were created one way or the other by the Ahi’s that sell land without proper zoning, encouraging more settlements for fast money,” she said.

“It’s time Ahis realise their failures and take the frontline to apologise and reconcile with the rest of  Morobeans, unite and address the issues together.”

Toni, the Minister for Community Development, Religion and Youth said: “I am talking about human lives being lost and families suffering to protect Ahi land.

“But Ahis continue to remain blind while selling more land like pieces of cake.”

She said it was a shame that Ahis failed to protect settlers and solve problems but instead took the back stage every time there was chaos.

Meanwhile, Morobe Governor Kelly Naru said 75% of lawlessness faced in Lae was a direct impact of Ahi’s selling land for cash.

“Ahi’s fail to protect lives to ensure respect for each other and to protect law and peace,” Naru said.

Toni with fellow MPs Paul Isikiel (Markham), Ross Seymour (Huon-Gulf), Sam Basil (Bulolo), Gisuwat Siniwin (Nawaeb) accompanied Naru to receive a petition from the Voice of Morobe leaders at the National Agriculture Research Institute on Thursday.
