MP: Set up ATMs in Maprik
The National, Friday January 10th, 2013
PEOPLE of Maprik, East Sepik, deserve to have a Bank South Pacific branch instead of just rural banking services, local MP John Simon says.
Simon is questioning the bank management on why there were no Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) installed at the bank building under construction.
He said the people of Maprik did most of their banking transactions through ATMs because it was convenient.
No comments could be obtained from the bank on the matter.
Simon said: “We deserve a separate branch apart from Wewak because other three districts – Yangoru-Saussia, Wosera-Gawi and Ambunti-Dreikikier – as well as Nuku, Lumi and Aitape in West Sepik normally get their basic government services here.”
Simon said if the bank did not want to install ATMs in its new building, then it might as well set up a branch in Maprik.
He said the people of Maprik preferred using an ATM because it was available after hours.
“The Maprik district administration offered land to BSP for their building because people … need banking services,” he said.
