TREASURER Ian Lin-Stuckey says he will look into concerns raised against the National Road Transport Authority (NRTA) and its fees.
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu queried the role of the NRTA and the new Road Traffic Act.
“Is centralisation the collections of fees and fines in Waigani under the National Roads Transport Authority in the best interests of the provinces, and is it with the spirit of sharing national wealth?” Saonu asked.
He said there was a lack of consultation and awareness by the National Road Transport Authority to the provincial governments of the new Road Traffic Act and the forceful action by NRTA to sign agreements with provincial governments as suppression of powers.
“What is the rate of reliability and effectiveness of the National Road Transport Authority in remitting to provincial governments their shares.
“Can the Morobe government collect fees and fines and retain its shares and remit the shares to NRTA for rates charge on fees, fines and traffic infringements under the new act are very high. Can these fees be reviewed and adjusted?” Ling-Stuckey advised Saonu to discuss it further with him.
