THE Bengrakum aid post in the Yamil-Tamaui local level government, in Maprik, East Sepik, will soon be upgraded to health centre status, Maprik MP John Simon says.

Simon revealed that during the launching of the Bengrakum Cocoa rehabilitation programme last week.

He said the aid post should be upgraded because of the increase in population.

“Health service is one of the very important sectors, and I have made commitments to upgrade all the health centres and aid posts in the district,” Simon said. He has allocated K20,000 to improve infrastructure.

“I do not want the people to look for health services somewhere else but want them to get health services right here at their doorstep,” he said.

He plans to make sure that all the aid posts and health centres in the four LLGs in the district be upgraded.

Simon said only referrals should be taken to the Maprik Rural Hospital.

He committed K250,000 for the cocoa rehabilitation programme in Maprik.
