MP wants action in partnership to deliver power
YANGORU-Saussia MP Richard Maru wants to see immediate action, not hear sweet talk anymore, in the partnership between his district development authority and PNG Power Ltd (PPL) to improve electricity delivery to his district.
Maru met with acting managing director Obed Batia last Thursday and lodged an official complaint about PPL’s extremely poor services in Yangoru-Saussia.
“The chronic service delivery by PNG Power in Yangoru-Saussia has not improved much over the nine years that I’ve been the MP,” he said.
“This is despite the fact that the Yangoru-Saussia development authority is a partner, securing and investing over K12 million in assets that become the property of PPL.
“The continuous power outage along our 150km service line and PPL’s lack of maintenance and not attending to customers’ requests is totally unacceptable.
“PPL is losing millions of kina in revenue without any care while our people, institutions and commercial investors go without electricity for months.”
Maru expressed disappointment at PPL failing to connect new customers despite numerous requests.
