MP wants laws to be enforced

NORTH Fly MP James Donald wants the Government to ensure all past and present bills passed by Parliament as laws be implemented and strictly enforced by a new and separate government department or entity.
“We have passed more than 10 bills in today’s (Thursday) sitting,” he said.
Donald said Parliament passed so many laws which were all workable, but felt that the only reason they didn’t work was because of the failure by the enforcement agency actual operation of the bills.
“I propose that in every department there must be a team called ‘Team Operations’ that actually carries out the respective department’s policies and laws without fear and favour,” he said.
Donald said every organisation that had an operation team was always seen to be successful and it was high time a separate entity was created to ensure all bills passed as laws were strictly and independently carried out without fear, favour or unnecessary delay.
“In a like manner for the governing structure, a new portfolio or responsibility can be vested to a minister or the deputy prime minister who will be responsible for the actual operations ensuring all these laws are enforced,” he said.
Parliament rose last week until Feb 22.
