KAIRUKU-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo says he will ask Prime Minister James Marape to give the controversial Manumanu land back to the people.
“If Peter O’Neill can give the controversial state-owned Woodlark Island in 2016 back to the people in the Samarai-Murua electorate in Milne Bay, then I’m sure Marape can give back the controversial Manumanu land (portions 406 , 422, 423 and 154 – a total of 3,400 hectares ) in my electorate back to the people,” the MP said.
Isoaimo told people at the opening of a new classroom for the Pinu Primary School on Monday: “I know a lot has been said about it (and) I know MPs and lawyers with legal terminologies want to quantify and qualify their own standing about the acquisition of this land for military purposes”.
“The fact is this land now belongs to the state after a sum of K38 million was paid for our land which we are now standing on,” he said.
“So in this session of Parliament, I will ask Marape that if O’Neill can give Woodlark Island back to the people, I’ll be asking him what he has in mind for the land.
“I keep telling the Government that our people want mega agricultural projects, not military activities.
“This was echoed when I had a meeting here at Pinu village prior to the 2017 national elections,” Isoaimo said.
He said the district had another issue to deal with.
“The former Lands minister saw fit to declare a concept for greater Port Moresby that include Vanapa, Sogeri as well as covering our coastline in Hiri to be greater part of Port Moresby through a physical planning arrangement called Ivaso planning area,” Isoaimo said.

  • Yes reclaim your land but reimburse the money and start fresh with the new central province plan for better development opportunity for your people.
All central members put all your efforts together and make central what it must be.

  • Pay the K38 million back to the government and get their land back. If they want police and courts to dig into the dealings of the controversial sale, they can push for that. The Woodlark case was different because its an isolated island that the government didn’t need. By the way, what would they do on the land if it was given back to them, knowing them central people are lazy!

    • Let’s be intelligent enough to debate and discuss the issue the MP has raised. Calling name a group of our people as lazy is shallow and naive. You an educated elite I’m of the view that you can expand your thoughts diplomatically.

  • Yes, give the land back to the people. Government officials knowingly sold and resold again and again by selfless low bodied, hell bent evildoers that stole from us. For this cordless human beings never stopped stealing and manumanu enriched their self egos. Nothing to show case, give the land back to the original land owners the central people.

  • Yes, give the land back to the people and hold those corrupt politicians involved responsible for wastage of public funds.

  • This land belongs to the people of Asiri Momiri clan of Koiari.

The government has to really do some serious clan vetting and get the real landowners not paper landowners.

  • Land at manumanu was under corruption and was sold out ..must return back to the people of manumanu n gabadi people of central province

  • I think the land is good for agricultural project where most of the people will benefit. Not only the nearby people will benefit, also people everywhere in the country will be employed there and this boost the economic activity. Remenber that agriculture along provide almost 15% of the country’s GDP apart from mineral and resources sectors, tourism sector and all that.

Military activities can take place elsewhere in other provinces, not in port moresby all the time. Let the military activities take place in provinces where there alot of tribunal fighting hotspot areas.

  • MP Isoaimo, please continue to push for the return of the land which rightfully belongs to your people. This land was contrevously obtained and stolen from our people. Further, please push for the prosecution of the thieves and refer them to the police. The administrative enquiry was only a cover up and push to be tabled in Parliament.
I would encourage you to do an inventory of both state & customary land in your electorate as there are schemers and scammers waiting to pounch on our simple and innocent LO’s and make millions.
