MP warns schools in district

NIPA-KUTUBU MP Jeffery Komal has warned schools to not abuse funds allocated for development.
“There are reports of head teachers working with school board to misuse funds,” he said.
“Funding to a school (named) was released by the district development authority (DDA) two years ago but nothing happened, and the money is missing.
“Stop such abuse of funding will also stop. Komal said the district had the highest population and biggest landmass and the DDA also had other sectors to look into and those that received funding must be used for the intended purpose.
He was speaking during the presentation of K150,000 cheques to each of the five primary schools in Bosave on Christmas Eve.
The schools are Fogomaiyu, Bosave, Mosula, Lake Campbell and Muluma. Komal also gave K300,000 for the construction of a local level government (LLG) chamber to house 12 councillors and their president.
He also gave K10,000 to the Wanigesa Evangelical church of Papua New Guinea to do repairs to damage caused by last year’s earthquake.
The presentation was held at Muluma Primary’s first grade 8 graduation. He committed K100,000 to subisdise airfares in his first budget next year and would continue such funding when available.
Komal said the DDA’s biggest achievement was the establishment of the Southern Highlands Teachers College and it would be paying fees for all students at Kutubu and Nipa Secondary.”
LLG president Daffy Meo said the people of Bosave had been praying continuously for a road and believed one day their dream would come true.
“Bosave is the only LLG in the province accessible only by air. The commitment to subisidise airfares is welcoming and will benefit many people,” he said.
Head teacher Ipini Tindipe said the Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funds for the school were spent on airfares to transport stationery and the MP’s commitment was good news.
