MPs hails for restoring plantation

 A landowner on the island and Kosonaibon clan leader David Moke has applauded ministers Mao Zeming (Fisheries) and Tommy Tomscoll (Agriculture and Livestock) for the foresight to invest K2 million to revitalise the plantation

THE reviving of Gizarum on Umboi island in the Tewae-Siassi district of Morobe, brings hope and new lease of life to the local economy and opens the possibility of empowering the rural communities.

The 19.22 hectares plantation had been for some time the basis business on the island generating thousands of kina from cocoa and copra and in provided people with cash to buy household necessities.

In 1987 the plantation was hit by natural disaster which resulted in the loss of economic activity.
