MPs made the right move

Letters, Normal

AS a student from West Papua, I commend the three MPs who signed the charter calling for an independent West Papua.
PNG should support West Papua’s independence.
West Papua has been suffering for almost 60 years.
The 1969 Act of Free Choice between the United Nations, the Dutch and Indonesian governments was not recognised.
The decision made was in favour of Indonesia and, to make it worse, only 1,025 people were allowed to vote while the remaining West Papuans were deprived from their rights.
Is this what you call free and fair?
I have seen how West Papuans live in East Awin, Vanimo and other parts of PNG.
They just want to be as free as their Melanesian brothers.
The Indonesian government must give them independence now, not tomorrow.
