MPs should follow protocols

Letters

I AM disappointed by the lengthy ministerial statement reading from the Health Minister Jelta Wong in regards to the coronavirus.
There is no need for ministers to read paragraphs and pages after pages. These readings consume a good number of question time.
PNG should have been addressed professionally with facts and figures in brief:

  • Current statics of infected cases around the world;
  • Current cases in PNG;
  • Preventive measures imposed in PNG;
  • How well is the ministry prepared to control this disease if it found in PNG;
  • How much was allocated to combat these disease; and,
  • How much was already expanded for early preparation to combat this deadliest disease?

The people don’t need your scientific definition of different airborne diseases that was mentioned.
We want clear cut and straightforward strategic approaches to safeguard the health and sovereign wealth of this nation.
Also, most of the parliamentarians’ comments and point of orders were ruled out of order by the Speaker.
Did these parliamentarians went to the house of representative to make a mockery out of themselves?
Most of the leaders were too emotional and even used inappropriate words.
Too many giggling in Parliament.
When you address issues affecting PNG, you all should be serious.
For example, when the Madang Governor Peter Yama asked a supplementary question to the mining minister for the cancellation of alluvial mining licenses from a foreign company operating in his homeland, all the MPs laughed.
Is it funny to MPs when a senior statesman asked such an important question?
MPs in both sides of the House should direct questions to ministers responsible and ask the prime minister to take note.
Most of them direct questions to the PMs and ask the minister responsible to take note which is opposite to protocol.
Question time is question time, please make use of it and ask specific and sensible questions to specific ministers.
Ministers responsible should reply with specific answers.
Finally, MPs with point of orders and supplementary questions should always be in order to save time.
