BULOLO MP Sam Basil says the funding of the delivery for relief supplies to districts should be shouldered by MPs.

Basil, the Pangu Pati leader and Deputy Opposition leader, distributed food items to people living in Ward 14 and Ward 4 in the Mumeng local level government last Friday.

“I think members are blessed – they have got district services improvement programme funding (DSIP), the Gaming Board funds that the Prime Minister gives to the members in parliament, plus the funds from National Planning,” Basil said.

“They are flush with lot of funding, even cash funding.

“The members are responsible for their people and how they do it is up to them and their administration.”

He said the Opposition office lacked funding but was making sure that in rolling out disaster relief, the price was negotiable and they bought in bulk so that public funds were spread evenly.

He said the MPs must take full responsibility when it comes to their people in the district.

“We as leaders cannot ignore the fact to serve the people in any circumstances, we must serve them fully,” Basil said.
