MPs told to talk about life issues
The National, Friday September 13th, 2013
MEMBERS of parliament have been urged to discuss serious issues affecting the lives of people and not debate their political differences and personal grievances.
Mt Hagen community leader Joseph Tikil said the parliament sitting must be devoted to discussion and debate on serious development issues.
“Make serious debate about what the government can do for little children seen collecting empty cans and plastic containers on the streets or even discuss issues on health, education, infrastructure such as roads and bridges, electricity and water supply,” he said.
“These are real issues affecting the people and yet when seen in newspapers or television MPs are not serious in addressing real problems.”
Tikil said PNG was very rich, “yet people are living a poor life and struggling to earn a living”.
He said the government should focus on how to manage and improve on such areas.
“MPs use these areas as their platform to do their campaigns but in fact they do not practice what they have promised the people,” he said.
He said PNG needed better health, education road infrastructure and so.
