MPs urged to focus more on HIV/AIDS fight

PASTOR Daniel Hewali said very few MPs have the people at heart in the fight to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
He said HIV/AIDS was a matter of life and death and urged MPs to give paramount attention to check the spread of the disease.
“If all MPs can provide the much needed attention, then the fight against HIV/AIDS will become easier, and prevention will prevail,” he said at the presentation by Moresby Northeast MP Andrew Mald to the National Capital District (NCD) provincial AIDS committee (PAC) recently.
The money was to help the PAC conduct AIDS awareness programmes for the electorates’ five-year strategic plans for 2011-15.
Pr Hewali received the donation in the presence of National AIDS Council acting director Wep Kanawi, PAC secretariat members and stakeholders from Moresby Northeast last month.
According to Pr Hewali the step taken by the MP should be the precedent set for many members to follow.
Mr Mald said the funds were for, among others, the development of Moresby Northeast strategic plans and formation of the AIDS Committee on HIV/AIDS for 2011-15,faith-based organisation summit for stakeholders and youth and women’s HIV/AIDS forums.
