MPs visit NZ to learn parliamentary committee system
TWO MPs recently visited New Zealand to see its parliamentary committee system and functions.
They are Rigo MP Lekwa Gure and Markham MP Koni Iguan, who are chairmen of Papua New Guinea parliamentary committees. They visited New Zealand’s House of Representatives last month to observe how their committee system operated and how they conducted their duties and responsibilities.
They also visited the parliamentary education and engagement office, parliamentary counsel office, parliamentary library and the standing orders review committee.
They also observed Question Time in Parliament. The visit was a follow-up of the training workshop for the committee chairmen and deputies held in Parliament in February.
The visit was funded by the Pacific Parliament Effective Initiative Project programme organised by the United Nations Development Programme Pacific Regional Office and funded by the New Zealand aid programme.
