DEPUTY Prime Minister Leo Dion and East New Britain Governor Ereman ToBaining Jnr have pledged a total of K40,000 to women’s development activities in the province.

The pledge was made on Saturday at Vunapope Diocese Hall to the women when they gathered to mark National Women’s Day.

Dion is the regional MP for East New Britain and is the former governor.

The districts of Kokopo, Rabaul, Gazelle and Pomio received K10,000.

A representative of the two leaders, Albert Buanga, told the large gathering that the funds would be managed by the provincial council of women.

He also urged women leaders to ensure the funds were used for the benefit of women in the districts.

“You should now rise up and work as a team,” Buanga said.

He added that gender equality was not something to ask for but something to work hard for.
