Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) and Telikom Foundation Inc (TFI) will collaborate in delivering an information communication technology (ICT) project called ‘Clean IT’ to schools in mining project areas of the country.
According to a statement from MRA, the Clean IT project was an existing initiative of the TFI that involved provision of internet and other computer-based services.
“The memorandum-of-understanding (MOU) between MRA and TFI will allow the Clean IT project to be rolled out in schools in mining project areas of the country, using the MRA’s network,” it said.
The two institutions signed the MOU on Friday, signifying their commitment to collaborate in delivering the project.
The MOU is a broad framework that will provide a general guideline on how to deliver the project.
“It identifies the different roles each party will play, and in addition, it spells out details of reporting and timelines,” MRA said.
“Amongst other commitments under the MOU, the MRA has undertaken to provide an enabling environment within mining communities that will allow for the project to be rolled out.
“The TFI has undertaken to act as the focal organisation to coordinate all activities associated with the implementation of the project.”
Telikom PNG’s acting chief executive officer Russel Tato and MRA’s acting managing-director Nathan Mosusu said they supported the project. They said it would be a life-changing experience for school children in the project areas.
Tato and Mosusu pledged their commitment towards the project.
This project will be a contribution from both parties towards supporting the Government in developing and delivering technology to the under-privileged population of the country.
