THE Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) Nines is set to kick off early next month, according to an official.
The rugby league tournament was initially scheduled to take place between Feb 24 and March 4 but the trial.
MRDC Nines football operations manager Meke Maino told The National that the change was to accommodate the trial match between the Papua New Guinea Hunters and the Brisbane Broncos on Feb 23.
“Our intial date would obviously interrupt the trial, so we brought the tournament forward,” Maino said.
“We’ll have the games for the first two weekends and the following weekend is schedule for the trial match.”
He said with the Port Moresby Rugby League (PRL) and the Hunters using the National Football Stadium (NFS), they would find it difficult run the tournament with the initial dates.
Meanwhile, Maino says the PRL annual general meeting (AGM) for last year will be held on Saturday to appoint new board members and to renew their affiliation.
He said club president or captains were urged to present their acquittals.
Maino said the meeting was supposed to be held last year but was postponed.
“We will clear the AGM and then the election of a new board,” he said.
“Each board has three terms to be in the office under the PRL constitution.”
Maino said the each club needed to renew their affiliation and pay a fee of K1000 before the deadline on Friday.
