MRDC useless, says MP

KIKORI MP Mark Maipakai claims the Mineral Resources Development Co has “outlived its usefulness”.
He joined the chorus of MRDC critics at the two-day State and landowner issues meeting in Port Moresby this week to discuss matters relating to the PNG LNG Project.
“MRDC has outlived its usefulness,” Maipakai told the meeting on Tuesday.
“There’s no transparency in expenditure, no involvement of landowners in terms of investment, we don’t know what is for future investment fund.
“What we hear is hotels in Fiji, hotels in Australia, hotels everywhere, investments here and there.
“At the end of the day, end of the year when books are closed, the clans that are shareholders have not received a statement of account.”
Maipakai called for an independent fund manager to be appointed to look after landowner funds.
