The National – Monday, July 11, 2011
THE affairs of the Western Highlands women’s rugby league will come under the umbrella of the Mt Hagen rugby league until a legal president was elected to take care of the league.
Officials from women rugby league clubs brushed aside reports that president-elect Wendy Wei was in charge of the league.
The officials, who asked not be be named told The National at the Rebiamu Oval last Sunday that a president was yet to be elected but there should be a representative with the Mt Hagen rugby league to hear issues concerning women’s league.
They said Wei was not the president until a proper meeting was held and proper procedures followed to elect a women’s president.
The officials said the women’s rugby league was now under the management of the Mt Hagen league.
The officials said until a women’s president was elected they would be working with the Mt Hagen rugby league. However, Wei maintained that she was the president.
Wei said she was appointed by the teams and players and matters concerning the league should be done in accordance with the rules and regulations of the league.
Wei said her appointment had been made known and she was in charge of the league.
The women’s rugby league competition has attracted five teams and is progressing well.
The officials thanked Eagle Fuel Distributors, Digicel, National Gaming Control Board, Mt Hagen league, Hagen MP William Duma, Tega Wreckers and Minor Workshop for supporting women’s league.
They said through the sponsors the league had attracted girls and women to participate.
Teams participating in the competition are KGD Girls, KC Knights, Kala Kai Dwells and Kum Crushers.
